I am very fortunate to have Marena from the Pilates Studio as part of my life – for the past 6 years while other forms of exercise have come and gone, Pilates has remained a constant. In that time there has been a marked improvement in my core strength, flexibility and fitness and I have a very defined waist – thanks to the efforts of Marena and Chris Digby and their wonderful team of talented instructors. As is the case with most people, I am always juggling the multiple commitments in my life – a senior executive role in a large corporate, caring for a husband with Parkinson’s, being the primary source of emotional support and care for an elderly parent, being a fond aunt and a step-grandmother, trying to keep in touch with friends and family with a need to be healthy and fit with… you get my drift!. I have been attending Pilates classes for nearly 5 years, and have noticed a huge improvement in my flexibility and core strength. It has protected my body from minor back pain and niggles that I used to regard as normal. My body awareness and posture has also improved. During a period of time when I had a frozen shoulder, I was able to have one to one sessions with Marena which kept my core strong and also provided focused rehabilitation for my shoulder. I have recently taken up Body Rolling classes as well. This is a wonderful approach which is like giving yourself a deep massage each week – stretching, loosening and “ironing out” all the tight spots in your body. When I first started Pilates, it was actually just my ‘last resort’ at finding exercise that I could manage with a damaged knee. I’ve always been an intense exerciser and always focused on burning the most amount of energy. I never knew what an amazing activity Pilates is. Not only did I build up the muscle I lost from knee surgery within the first few weeks, I realised how challenging Pilates could really be. Each week I challenge myself to perfect an exercise and it’s an amazing feeling when I progress. As a result of Pilates, I’m now at my strongest, healthiest and most importantly happiest! I highly recommend Positive Action Pilates from two perspectives: one as an instructor learning Pilates specifically for the fitness environment, the second as a Group Fitness Director of 20 years experience, currently with ReCreation East Malvern, one of Australia’s most esteemed and leading group fitness facilities. As a fitness presenter and cyclist I had such a desire to learn how to teach people the art of core connection and proper technique on the bike using pilates principles. I tried several courses and most seemed to make the process seem quite complicated. I then attended Chris and Marena Digby’s Piilates Mat instructor courses 1 & 2, followed by Reformer level 1. After completion of the Mat 1 & 2 I learnt some incredible cues and techniques to take my students to the next level. As a Fitness Professional and Pilates Instructor living and working in Los Angles (USA) I first saw Marena and Chris at the IDEA World Fitness Convention in 2015. I subsequently undertook their ‘Pilates & Props’ online workshop. I found the workshop both comprehensive and educational. All the learning materials are incredible and the ACE (American Council of Exercise) CEC’s were great. I now feel confident to add these new exercises and Props into my repertoire.
